We’re back with more Q&A’s with the fabulous women behind EMMA Magazine! Next up, is Stephanie Neiheisel, our beauty consultant!

EMMA Magazine: Where did you go to school?
Stephanie Neiheisel: I am from Salt Lake City UT and attended Salt Lake Community College for my Associates Degree.

EM: Your major?
SN: Life had a seriously larger plan for me and with only two semesters before achieving my Associates I never went back. So needless to say, my major is 1) living life to the fullest, 2) taking risks and 3) being awesome.

EM: What are your long term career goals?

SN: Five years ago if you had asked me where I thought I’d be in 2013 I NEVER would have imagined it would be happily living in Arizona, living the dream of being a successful makeup artist, with a killer apartment, and an amazing hunk of a boyfriend. I did however know that I’d still be driving my 2000 beater Hyundai Elantra. That baby’s got some spunk, I tell ya.

I’ve completely fallen in love with the art of makeup artistry and the roller coaster life that goes along with it. I can’t imagine my life/career any other way, and my ultimate goals are to expand my experience in film, editorial print work, and one day collaborating makeup creations with designers for the runway. I would even love to create my own artistry makeup line and beauty magazine. I find inspirations from vintage stores, music, films, and yes tv.

EM: Favorite TV show?
SN: If you aren’t in love with the time sensitive and understated beauty in Mad Men then I simply don’t understand you . The makeup, nails, and hair are always on point! That being said, Mad Men is one of my favorite TV shows. I’m also very fond of Breaking Bad, Curb Your Enthusiasm, House of Cards, Game of Thrones, and American Horror Stories (Season 1!).

EM: Guilty pleasure?
SN: My guilty pleasure? Oh man, where do I even start. ‘Die Young’ by Kesha, ANYTHING sweet, Rob Zombie (yes, I love him), horror graphic novels (I have a small/awesome collection), anything with skulls, Robert Jordan books (yes The Wheel of Time series). Judge away, my friends. Despite my love for all things masculine, borderline scary, and horroresque, I’m actually disgustingly girly.

EM: What are 3 things in your bag at all times?
SN: Three things I NEVER leave the house without are: 1- Lipstick, 2- Hand cream, 3- nail glue. I’ll let you roll with that.

EM: Favorite place to travel to?
SN: When it comes to traveling, I REALLY need to get out there more. I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying two different cruises, and I can honestly say some of my favorite experiences were swimming with Sting Ray’s in Grand Cayman, playing with monkeys in Honduras (one unsuccessfully tried to pull my bikini off), and climbing waterfalls in Jamaica. And although those are exotic and gorgeous places, today my favorite place to travel is Vegas. No not because of the booze, or the gambling, or the bright lights. Because over the last four years my boyfriend and I have created so many killer memories there. We don’t “do Vegas” like most people do. It has seriously become a second home for us. We know our favorite local coffee shop, the best lounges, delicious local restaurants, etc… And every time I think about Vegas my heart warms up. We will be there in two weeks for my man’s birthday, and it’s pretty much all I can think about.

EM: Any hobbies?
SN: When I’m not slinging makeup and creating faces I love working out, enjoying the outdoors, playing with photography (I’m no pro), writing beauty articles, thrift shopping, and getting lost in a coffee shop somewhere.

EM: What do you love about EMMA?
SN: Let me just start by saying that ever since the women behind EMMA Magazine came into my life (along with all the amazing people I’ve met through working with the magazine) the desert has started feeling more and more like home. What I love about EMMA Magazine is that it is a shinning example of talented, driven, smart, and compassionate women coming together to inspire each other and all of YOU. The fact that I’m working along side these women is a huge compliment in and of itself. I love that I have the opportunity to share my passion with the world and that I have the opportunity to learn so much from the other contributors of EMMA. This is gonna be big, you just wait.

It’s time for the fourth Q&A post featuring the women behind EMMA! Photographer Alejandra Vidal gives her answers this week!

EMMA Magazine: Where did you go to school?
Alejandra Vidal: Emory University in Atlanta, GA.

EM: Your major?
AV: Doubled in Film and Sociology (I clearly love the study of people and cinematography ).

EM: What are your long term career goals?
AV: Hmm. More than anything, I would love to be teaching and leading. This might be through workshops or expanding my business, but I know I have a calling to teach and motivate others to excel. I also love collaborating, so I hope to bring visions together for editorial spreads, campaigns, and other areas where I can bring visions to life via photography or video.

EM: Favorite TV show?
AV: So You Think You Can Dance.

EM: Guilty pleasure?
AV: Hot Cheetos. Going strong since the 90′s.

EM: What are 3 things in your bag at all times?
AV: IKEA tape measure (yes, that free paper one), fuchsia fever lipstick, and my business cards. A girl’s gotta be ready!

EM: Any hobbies?
AV: Ladies dance team, volleyball, reading, game nights with friends, and exploring downtown with my husband.

EM: What do you love about EMMA?
AV: I love the way EMMA Magazine is able to pull such an assortment of strengths, styles, and talent from so many women. Their articles do more than inspire you to create – they celebrate life with you and teach you the different ways to make those celebrations a little more fabulous.

The third Q&A with the women behind EMMA is here! We talked with our fashion editor, Alexandra Evjen, for this week’s blog post!
EMMA Magazine: Where did you go to school?

Alexandra Evjen: Arizona State University.

EM: Your major?
AE: Business and Communications.

EM: Long term career goals?
AE: I would LOVE to one day meet Grace Coddington and style a spread for Vogue. But honestly, my ultimate goal is to be able to always do what makes my heart and soul feel alive. Right now that’s being a wife, mom to Elle and a fashion stylist, but who knows where the wind will blow.

EM:Favorite TV show?
AE: I’m a diehard fan of Project Runway. I’m also a regular watcher of New Girl, The Voice and Big Bang Theory.

EM: Guilty pleasure?
AE: Disney Channel movies, Glee and all pop music.

EM: What are 3 things in your bag at all times?
AE: Since becoming a mom, the definite answer would be diapers, wipes and bottle. But when I’m not toting a diaper bag around, coral lipstick, bronzer and bobby pins.

EM: Favorite place to travel to?
AE: It’s a tie between New York City and Sonoma.

EM: Any hobbies?
AE: Singing, pinning everything and spending quality time with friends and family.

EM: What do you love about EMMA?
AE: I love that it is the most relatable magazine out there right now, and that it is bringing every cool Pinterest DIY to life.

Q&A with Alejandra Armstrong- Intern

The second installation of Q&A posts featuring the women behind EMMA is here! This week we give you EMMA intern Alejandra Armstrong!

EMMA Magazine: Where do you go to school?
Alejandra Armstrong: I am a proud Sun Devil.
EM: Your major?
AA: I am studying Journalism with a focus in print at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at ASU.

EM: What are your long term career goals?
AA: I would love to be a celebrated columnist or start my own magazine (I can only hope to create something as amazing as EMMA ). One dream of mine is to travel the world and spend my time and efforts giving to people in need. If I can somehow incorporate my love for writing in that, that would be ideal!

EM: Favorite TV show?
AA: I am sucker for musicals, so I love Smash. I don’t have too much time to watch TV, but in my spare time I like to revisit Arrested Development episodes. I cannot wait for the Netflix season airing in May!

EM: Guilty pleasure?
AA: Chocolates. Ice Cream. Cupcakes. Milk Shakes. Anything sweet!

EM: What are 3 things in your bag at all times?
AA: Burt’s Bees Replenishing Lip Balm with Pomegranate Oil, notepad and pen, and a voice recorder- gotta be ready for impromptu interviews!

EM: Any hobbies?
AA: Dance! I’ve been dancing since I was 4 years old. I also got into yoga this last summer. And I am really trying to up my photography game.

EM: What do you love about EMMA?
AA: I love how much I am learning from interning with EMMA Magazine! I am seriously the luckiest intern because I have so much fun. EMMA’s message to its readers is just as beautiful as the aesthetics of the pages. EMMA encourages readers to go out, explore, and create, and I think that’s amazing!

Q&A with Michelle Herrick- Photographer

Want to know more about the fabulous women behind EMMA? Well, we are starting a new regular blog post that feature Q&A’s with some EMMA usual suspects! Our first one is with photographer Michelle Herrick!

EMMA Magazine: Where did you go to school?

Michelle Herrick: I have actually attended a couple colleges between Northern California (where I’m from) and Arizona, but unfortunately never finished out my degree, which was supposed to be in Communications. Eventually I’ll get back to it, but I’m not sure if it will be in Communications, or not. I’m kind of a sucker for Forensic Science…random, I know.

EM: Long term career goals?
MH: For my long term goal I would love to add several major brands and labels to my client list; I love shooting campaigns and creating and working through that process.

EM:Favorite TV show?
MH: I’m a BIG fanatic of the show SMASH!! Absolutely love it…the music…the story lines…everything. It’s like Glee, but for grown ups. Oh, and there is a new show called The Following…a bit creepy, but I am totally hooked.

EM: Guilty pleasure?
MH: Oh man, I have so many For my tastebuds, I am a total sucker for anything salty/sweet…absolutely CANNOT resist! Liberty Market’s salt river bar is something worth living for…I promise. And for my mindless downtime, I usually turn to Real Housewives of anything…I’m ashamed, but it’s true.

EM: What are 3 things in your bag at all times?
MH: Softlips Pearl Tinted Lip Conditioner/Sunscreen, business cards, & gum.

EM: Any hobbies?
MH: Hobbies…besides photography? Well other than hanging with my kiddos, I love playing volleyball, working on design projects, dreaming up fun, glamours shoots, or getting together with my best girls and laugh til we cry.

EM: What do you love about EMMA?
MH: I cannot say enough good things about EMMA. The creativity of the editors, the design, the concept, the whole package…it’s spectacular! What I really love is the idea behind EMMA. That these ladies collectively pulled their knowledge, their love, their resources together to create something amazing…such an inspiration!
