I want to share a special event that is going on today called Giving Tuesday. Emma is participating in Giving Tuesday by supporting local nonprofit organizations that protect the community’s most vulnerable populations. We are taking the time to consider what is most important to us, such as women’s rights, LGBTQ rights, immigration and refugee services, education needs, children and youth and help for the homeless.
Following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is celebrated on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Since its inaugural year in 2012, Giving Tuesday has inspired people to take a little bit of time out of their day to learn more about the great organizations helping vulnerable populations around them. The movement was created by the Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact at the 92nd Street Y in New York City.
I think Giving Tuesday is the perfect way to start of this season of giving. I encourage all of you to search for opportunities to give back today. Giving Tuesday has a great search tool on their site that can help you find organizations near you. You can filter by nonprofits, schools, foundations and faith-based organizations. Remember, giving is not all about monetary donations. Take a few minutes today to learn how you can volunteer your time and services, or help spread the word with a social post.
Giving is good for the soul. Try it out!
