Learn the art of dark chocolate pairing with these gourmet s’more combinations.

The arrival of spring means spending cool evenings on the patio with friends. It’s also the perfect time to break in a new fire pit and roast up s’mores. There’s something nostalgic about the act of roasting a marshmallow and sandwiching it between two graham crackers, though for us, the real star of the show has got to be the chocolate. We thoroughly enjoy a conventional s’more but as chocolate lovers, we wanted something a bit fancier, so we picked up Ghirardelli’s line of intense dark chocolate bars to do some experimenting. They’re slow-melting, so you don’t have to worry about a mess, and the rich flavors kept us recipe testing long after we found the perfect combinations. First up?

The Classic:

  • Ghirardelli’s Intense Dark Twilight Delight
  • One Salted Pretzel
  • Toasted Almonds
  • Jumbo Marshmallows
  • Two Graham Crackers

The Twilight Delight is made up of 72% cacao, so its chocolate intensity is pretty much unrivaled, making it the perfect sophisticated twist on a traditional s’more. It’s the kind of bar you want to savor with a glass of Cab after a long day. After this indulgent piece of heaven, we moved on to:

The Works:

This 86% cacao bar delivers the ultimate chocolate intensity and with notes of dried plums, it pairs super well with fruit spreads, or in our case fresh fruit. This is without a doubt, the most luxurious dessert s’more we’ve ever tried. After we ran out of wafers, we just sandwiched the gourmet marshmallows and Midnight Reverie squares together and kept going.

The Afternoon Delight:

  • Ghirardelli’s Intense Dark Sea Salt Soiree
  • Barbecue Chips
  • Jumbo Marshmallows
  • Two Graham Crackers

Our final gourmet s’more will win over all sweet and salty lovers with the mouth-watering Sea Salt Soiree bar. Flecked with slow-roasted almonds and coarse sea salt, we paired this intense dark chocolate bar with fluffy marshmallows and crisp barbecue chips. The result? Sweet and salty perfection.

You could savor these indulgent fireside sandwiches alone, but we recommend spreading the love. Invite your neighbors and visit http://ghirardelli.com/intensedark to make a night out of it.
