Holiday Mantel

There’s nothing more “holiday” than a fire to keep you warm and cute mantel to boot! We’ve got tips on how to style a merry mantel for the holiday season.

Proportion: The first thing to keep in mind is proportion. If you’re going for a large focal piece above the fireplace, make sure it’s at least two thirds the width of the mantel. If it’s too small, it can end up looking well, dinky.

Layer: The second key is to layer. When picking out decor items, look for varying textures and shapes, but stick with a consistent color scheme to maintain a cohesive feel. We kept a red and green color scheme for our traditional mantel, but blended rustic wood, cable knit fabric, and shiny metallic textures. The shapes varied as well, layering geometric (a rectangle and circle) with organic (a tree and branch bowl).

Heights: Finally, each decor item should rise at a †different height. Mixing high and low pieces keeps the eye engaged for a look that is truly tied together.
