How to: Can Homemade Jam

Test your kitchen skills with our blackberry jam recipe, and learn how to preserve the berry goodness by following this canning tutorial!

  1. Sterilize. Fill a large stock pot with water. Submerge empty jars, rings, and lids. Bring to a boil. These can boil away while you make your jam!
  2. After at least five minutes, remove jars, rings, and lids with tongs and place on dish towel.
  3. Ladle jam into the hot, sterilized jars, filling until about 1/4 inch from the top and tightly seal. Return filled jars to boiling water.
  4. After boiling for at least ten minutes, remove jars. Listen for the jars to “seal,” meaning the metal lids will compress with a slight “pop!”
